The burglaries have happened throughout the last several months in Briarcliff Manor, the village's police department announced on Tuesday, July 25.
The most recent incidents were reported at residences located in the area of Sleepy Hollow Road and Long Hill Road, the department said, also adding that many of the burglaries have happened while homeowners were away on vacation.
The suspects will usually enter the homes through the rear entrances during the incidents, which are now under investigation by authorities.
As police work to catch the suspects, they are urging village residents to take the following precautions:
- Keep all doors and windows locked;
- Those who see or hear something suspicious should not investigate and should instead call police;
- Invest in a home security system that records video and watches the rear entrances of homes;
- Look out for suspicious activity during the day and evening hours, including idling vehicles with out-of-state plates and vehicles that may be driving slowly and casing homes;
- Use lights with timers that turn on inside to give the appearance that someone is home;
- Those on vacation should let police know so they can be added to the department's vacant home list;
- Report all suspicious activity captured on surveillance video.
